After the Storm
He only whispered, Trust.
The storm came swift and unforeseen And beat upon the house. Shuddering heart and shaking knees Before the power bowed. And as the wind went sweeping through, The walls were all destroyed. Your baseless hopes were shattered too, And all your strength was void. You cast yourself upon the ground And wept there in the dust. In mercy, here the Lord was found: He only whispered, Trust. He emptied you of all your own– Your thoughts, your might, your faith. And when your pride was so dethroned, He filled you with His grace. When the clouds have dissipated, The storm has passed away. When the flooding has abated, You’ll breathe the light of day. Then amid the wreck and ruins, Though damage has been done, You’ll sing, in sorrow’s wistful tune, A victory is won.
