I had the happy privilege of being the matron of honour for my dear friend’s wedding (which necessitated a trip to the UK for us, alluded to in this poem!). This is the poem I wrote for the newlyweds. It was the first time I’ve read one of my poems in public. It was well received, which was a great encouragement for me!
May love be a wall around you That safeguards joy and peace. May it be for you a refuge, A rock beneath your feet. May love be the door for kindness, Whose law bind on your lips. May it be a cloak that covers A multitude of sins. May love be the lamp that guides Through every winding way. May it be the strength courage finds After a trying day. May love be the home you share— A haven for your souls. May evil never enter there, But blessings hundred fold. May love be balm in sorrow, The peace in any pain, The tender hand that heartens you To bear your cross again. May God give love within you To love as he has done. May his arms always surround you For he himself is Love.
